🌱 State-Run Cannabis in PA, THC Drinks Coalition, Urban’s Rolling

Welcome to Rise & Roll, a bi-weekly newsletter that keeps you smart, savvy, and always in the loop on the latest in cannabis.

Here’s what we have on deck for today…

State-run weed shops could transform PA market

Six years after launching medical marijuana — and seeing it’s five neighboring states rake in millions from recreational use — Pennsylvania's taking another swing at recreational legalization.

  • Democratic Representatives Frankel and Krajewski's new bill proposes selling adult-use cannabis alongside liquor in state-run stores

  • While the bill promises criminal justice reforms and social equity measures, industry insiders are raising eyebrows at this government-controlled distribution model

While this hybrid approach may limit retail options, Pennsylvania's 13M population and established medical infrastructure make it a potential goldmine for cultivators, processors, and consumption lounge operators.

Hemp & booze team up for retail

The newly formed Coalition for Adult Beverage Alternatives (CABA) is bringing together hemp and alcohol industry players to push for legal, low-dose THC drinks in traditional retail spots.

Their game plan?

  • Develop rigorous safety standards for consumer protection

  • Create clear operating guidelines for the industry

  • Champion consistent state-level regulations

This cross-industry alliance signals a potential breakthrough for cannabis beverage distribution, offering a promising template for mainstreaming other cannabis products through traditional retail channels.

Urban Outfitters gets rolling

Urban Outfitters is now stocking DaySavers’ joint-rolling machines and pre-roll cones across their stores nationwide.

The rolling machines sold out on Urban Outfitter’s website the day they were listed.

Although this isn’t Urban’s first appearance into the cannabis market — it partnered with CBD For Life back in 2019 — it demonstrates that major retailers are becoming increasingly more comfortable associating with cannabis culture.

This mainstreaming of cannabis accessories could pave the way for broader retail partnerships across the industry, potentially transforming how cannabis-related products reach consumers.
