🌱 MA Safety Rules, CBD Alcohol Study, Michigan Fines
Welcome to Rise & Roll, a bi-weekly newsletter that keeps you smart, savvy, and always in the loop on the latest in cannabis.
Here’s what we have on deck for today…
Massachusetts names cannabis dust as workplace hazard
Ground cannabis dust has been officially classified as a hazardous chemical in Massachusetts. This regulation comes after a tragic incident at a Trulieve processing facility three years ago. Massachusetts operators must now evaluate workplace risks and implement safety measures for processing facilities, including:
Thorough workplace evaluations
Proper safety protocols
And protective measures
While this adds new compliance responsibilities for operators, it also creates an opportunity for companies to develop better safety solutions for the industry's growing processing sector.
CBD fighting alcohol addiction
A new study concluded CBD might be effective in battling alcohol addiction.
German researchers not only found that a single 800mg CBD capsule could significantly reduce alcohol cravings in alcoholics, but also could help with both stress and addiction triggers
This opens exciting doors for cannabis companies looking to expand into healthcare partnerships and addiction treatment markets.
Keep an eye on this space — it could reshape how we think about CBD's medical applications.
Michigan slaps 67 cannabis businesses with fines
The Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) handed out fines to 67 licensed cannabis businesses in November, with penalties ranging from $333 to $19,000.
Violations include:
Annual financial statement noncompliance.
Failure to report material changes (legal entity and physical locations/operations).
General operational issues.
Noncompliant handling and production.
Noncompliant sales.
Noncompliant waste disposal.
Packaging and advertising.
Sampling and testing.
As cannabis markets mature nationwide, strong compliance systems aren't just good practice — they're essential.
Whether you're in Michigan or eyeing other state markets, building robust operational processes from day one will save you major headaches (and dollars) down the road.
